Father's Uniform Was Soaked in Blood': Families of Injured Delhi Police Personnel Speak Out After Jantar Mantar Protest

Families of Delhi Police personnel injured during the recent student-led protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi have spoken publicly about the physical and emotional toll of the violence, alleging that several officers were brutally attacked while on duty.

At a press conference held on Friday, relatives of injured officers said their suffering had largely gone unnoticed amid widespread allegations of police brutality against student protesters. They urged authorities to ensure justice for police personnel who continue to undergo medical treatment following the clashes.

Daughter Says Father Was "Almost Lynched"

The daughter of a Delhi Police sub-inspector described the traumatic experience of seeing her father seriously injured during the protest held on July 25.

According to her, the officer was dragged by a violent mob near the stage at Jantar Mantar and was "almost lynched" before being rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, where he reportedly remained unconscious for nearly four hours.

She said her father, who previously served for 15 years as a Marine Commando in the Indian Navy before joining Delhi Police, sustained severe head injuries that required four stitches.

"His uniform was completely soaked in blood. Seeing him in that condition was extremely painful for us," she said.

The family described the incident as one of the most difficult moments they had ever faced.

Wife of ACP Describes Emotional Ordeal

The wife of an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), who was also injured during the clashes, said watching her husband return home wounded was devastating for the family.

She recalled that her husband arrived home late on the night of July 20 with injuries sustained while handling the protest.

"The moment he returned home injured was incredibly painful and traumatic for both my two-year-old daughter and me," she said while addressing the media alongside other police families.

She added that the conference was organised to highlight the sacrifices and hardships faced by police personnel deployed during the protests.

Families Seek Justice

Relatives of other injured officers demanded strict action against individuals responsible for attacking police personnel and creating violence during the demonstrations.

One family member said those who attempted to turn the protest violent and disrupt public order should be held accountable under the law. At the same time, she appealed for genuine students to be treated fairly after proper verification of their records.
