India Moves Closer to Formula 1 Return as FMSCI Secures National Sports Federation Status
India's ambition to bring Formula 1 (F1) back to the country has received a major boost after the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports provisionally granted National Sports Federation (NSF) status to the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).
The recognition marks a significant milestone for FMSCI, the governing body responsible for promoting and regulating motorsport in India. With the new NSF status, the federation becomes eligible to receive financial assistance and institutional support from the Sports Ministry, strengthening its efforts to develop motorsport across the country.
FMSCI had submitted its application for NSF recognition on June 11, and the ministry's approval is expected to accelerate initiatives aimed at expanding India's motorsport ecosystem.
India previously hosted the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit from 2011 to 2013. However, the event was discontinued due to taxation issues and financial challenges.
The latest development aligns with the country's broader vision of bringing Formula 1 back to Indian soil, with plans to host a Grand Prix by 2028. Government support and the federation's upgraded status are expected to play a crucial role in achieving that goal.
